Duck Race winner 2010

Michelle was our grand prize winner of this year's Duck Race. I believe she works with Ian and therefore probably deserves double the amount on the cheque. Well done Michelle, but could we have our duck back?

Golf Charity Day - July '10

Our first Golf Charity Day - not many entrants, judging by these pictures only Vernon played, but we still raised over £300. Worth doing again next year.

Dad's Army at 'Dad's Army'

This is just to prove that the Lions did watch a theatre production - the rest of the pictures just seem to show the 'Lions feeding'. Gill has just turned to Tony asking, ' And what did you do in the war.' There is clearly a massive age gap.

Tony J has just finished his talk about how he drove lorries in the war supplying troops on the front line and how the metal in his knee is actually shrapnel. Nick is using sign language (hand in pocket) to indicate that it's a load of old b.........ks.

Brian's showing how he used to survive on war-time rations. 'This is how much butter we had for the whole week'.Unfortunately he has clearly made up for it since. Nott'm Forest even had a football team then.

Captain Mainwaring and Sargeant Wilson tucking into the buffet - nice to see the cast joining in with the plebs.

A great evening was had by all - picnic, wine and an outdoor production of Dad's Army in the grounds of Stamford Hall ( Ithink, corrections are always welcome).

What is Roger doing?? Again all suggestions are welcome.

Laxton - 'the land that time forgot'

On the 6th July 2010 John Horsfall 'organised' a visit to Laxton, a village which still operates the Medieval 3 field system, in fact most of the Lions on the trailer looked like peasants or villeins. It certainly took all of the tractors power to tow us along.Are we sitting comfortably? Who checked the health and safety? No seat belts, side rails or sick bags.

Caught in the act! Never missing a chance for a free meal although Mike needed ladders to reach the tasty cherries.

It was interesting - honest! We visited the classic motte and bailey castle, saw rare orchids in the protected meadow and had the whole concept of 3 field system explained to us. All described by the local farmer whose name I've forgotten ( could J.H. let me know). Tony Key looks very dubious though.
The views from the castle were suberb well worth a revisit.

It couldn't have been a better evening to wander through the fields, trying to spot rare flowers and ancient relics (it's too easy to make a comment at this point)
And off we go, Sheila and Paul want to sit at the back of the bus, Mike thinks he's the conductor and Tony's just picking his nose.

The end of a great evening finished off with a compulsory pint in the local 'Dovecote' pub. We might even let John organise something else.

Charter 2010

Tony in full flow and ready to hand over the chain of office. Margaret looks absolutely entranced although I think she's more focussed on the balloons wondering where all the hot air is coming from.
Nearly 80 people attended and enjoyed the evening. Already booked the Saracens Head again for next year.

I think Ann has heard Mike's story before! Paul acted as Master of Ceremonies and is keeping a firm hold of his gavel.

Deputy District Governor, Robin Duke, addressed the Lions and seemed to enjoy his evening despite sitting next to Graham C. for most of the night.

Our first Caley, Cayley, Cailie or Ceilidh

Our excellent caller, Richard, backed by the superb Minster band. They got everybody up and dancing very quickly. For our first Ceilidh we had an excellent turn out, 90 tickets sold. Might well become a regular feature.

Great to see so many youngsters playing, apparently there are usually 4 or 5 more but they were performing elsewhere.

Anne, Mike, Ian and Margaret doing a 'left hand star' - such good movers!!

Not sure that this was part of the dance - just seemed a good idea at the time.

Have you noticed that Anne seems to get into every picture? Have a feeling that Sheila is taking the lead and dragging Paul into the right position.

Barry and Margaret swaying gently but clearly, with his tongue out, having to concentrate very hard. All awaiting instructions and trying to work out who's couple 1, 2, 3, or 4. They were still like this 5 minutes later - very difficult to get an action shot.

Presentation & Police Line-Up

A magnificent cheque for £4,600 presented to the 'Police Aid Convoys'. This was the largest single cheque they had ever received and could pay for 2 complete/full containers - GREAT EFFORT!

We thought that it was about time all, or at least nearly all, the Lions were brought together in one photo. I think that's Tony's head's in the foreground, obviously being used to reflect the light.Tony J has been dazzled, something has tickled Ian, probably Joe's standing too close and as for the rest? - I just hope that this is not being used as a publicity photo. But wait there's even more.

I'm not sure that this photo needs any comment except to ask what does Tony W. thinks he's doing? Must believe he's still in Iceland.
